Apply to Be a Featured Speaker or Moderator
Who can apply? What's the difference between a featured speaker and a moderator? |
Featured speakers are practicing teachers of digital writing grades K-12 with expertise to share.
Moderators are educators interested in learning the art of moderating interactive webinars. Content area expertise in the teaching of writing and digital writing is preferred. Featured speakers and moderators will be paired up to collaborate on the creation of a one-hour interactive webinar. They will attend the virtual professional development sessions on effective webinar facilitation together. And although time will be afforded in the PD sessions for the featured speaker and moderator to craft and rehearse their webinar presentation, additional outside time will be required to fine tune the presentation, practice navigating Blackboard Collaborate, and learn the nuances of working as a team in this digital space.
The featured speaker is the lead on content creation and ideas for delivery and interactivity. The moderator is the virtual concierge, acting as host, chat room moderator, transition maker, and tech trouble shooter during the webinar. The moderator should also play an active role in the development of the webinar, providing support and suggestions as the featured speaker wrestles with what to present, how to present it, and how to engage the audience. It is helpful if the moderator has strong knowledge about the teaching of digital writing, though that isn't a requirement. |
